How KeepItAnchored Shampoo compares to caffeine shampoos

Ahh, caffeine. It’s been revving us up for centuries. It’s even been fueling scientific research.

You’d think we know all there is to know about caffeine, but it is still the subject of thousands of scientific studies to get to the truth of what it can and can’t do. Literally thousands! In the past 10 years, more than 11,000 papers were published on caffeine-related research, like studying the effects it has on health, on sleep, on memory, on sex, on fat, and even on hair.

Here’s what we know about caffeine and hair:

  • Studies have shown that caffeine can get deep into the skin and hair fiber - like this one published in 2011 in the British Journal of Dermatology. It’s a small molecule that gets a special pass to get into hair (these aren’t handed out to just any molecule!). This does not guarantee caffeine will do anything once it gets there, but it’s a good start.
  • An often-cited study published in 2014 the British Journal of Dermatology found that small concentrations of caffeine: 1) counteracted the negative effects that testosterone has on hair growth and 2) had a positive effect on the amount of time hair spends in the active growth phase (the anagen phase) of the hair growth cycle.
Sounds promising, right? It is, but the research did NOT confirm that caffeine in a hair care product will stimulate growth for the hair on real heads. The study was done by dissecting hair follicles (the scalp pore that surrounds hair’s root) from people’s scalps and studying the follicles in a petri dish. Imagine a bunch of hair bulbs hanging out in a wading pool of caffeine and / or testosterone for 5 days waiting to find out what happens – shrivel up or keep growing? Not the average day in the life of our hair!
  • A 2018 clinical study showed that daily use of a shampoo and leave-on treatment that combined caffeine with Zn minerals, antioxidant salts, and b-vitamins improved scalp quality (less itch and irritation) AND reduced daily hair loss. It was the combination that had the power to keep more hair, not caffeine alone. That’s why this combination became the technology in KeepItAnchored’s Hair Anchoring Essences and Shampoo.

So, how does KeepItAnchored’s Shampoo with caffeine compare to other caffeine shampoos?
